North Cyprus Scholarships: What Is Actually Real?

Official verification required. Fees, entry rules, and procedures in North Cyprus change by intake and by nationality. Always confirm current requirements directly with the university's official international office and the official sources listed on this page before paying or booking anything.

Short answer: genuine tuition scholarships and discounts exist in North Cyprus, but there is no universal percentage that applies to every university, program or intake. Judge an award by the final payable amount, written conditions and official source—not the size of the advertised percentage.

Scholarship, waiver and discount are not interchangeable

Universities use several pricing mechanisms. An admission award may reduce published tuition automatically for eligible international applicants. A merit scholarship may depend on school results or university performance. A need-based award may require a separate application. An early-payment discount may apply only during a short window.

The marketing label matters less than the invoice. A “75% scholarship” calculated from a high list price can still cost more than a smaller discount at another institution. Compare the amount payable for the same program and academic year, including compulsory funds and VAT.

EMU’s official information says international undergraduate and master’s students are considered for a 50% tuition scholarship in many faculties, while medicine and dentistry are treated differently. Its 2026–2027 fee schedule also shows several scholarship bands. That is evidence about EMU, not proof of a sector-wide rule.

METU Northern Cyprus publishes its own scholarship and fee arrangements. Again, use the current institution-specific rules rather than transferring a policy from one campus to another.

Six terms to verify in writing

Before accepting an award, request a document or official-domain email that answers:

  1. What is the gross tuition and the exact net tuition?
  2. Which compulsory charges are outside the award?
  3. Does it cover English preparation, summer study or repeated courses?
  4. Is it valid for the standard program duration?
  5. Is renewal automatic, or is a GPA or credit-load condition required?
  6. What happens after a leave of absence, transfer or delayed graduation?

Save the scholarship letter and fee schedule together. If the offer refers to regulations, download those regulations on the same day.

Government scholarship claims require extra care

The TRNC Ministry of Education publishes scholarship announcements for specific periods and groups. The existence of an official scheme does not mean every international applicant qualifies. A person who claims access to a “government scholarship” should provide the current official announcement, eligibility rules, application channel and deadline.

Never pay an individual to unlock a scholarship that cannot be found on the university’s or ministry’s official website. Do not rely on a cropped screenshot; open the source yourself.

Common warning signs

  • The “scholarship” exists only in a chat and not on your university record.
  • You must pay a personal account to activate it.
  • The representative will not state the net annual amount.
  • Renewal conditions are described as “guaranteed” but are absent from the letter.
  • A deadline expires within hours and the university cannot confirm it.
  • The award is used to avoid discussing registration, laboratory or accommodation charges.

An ethical representative can explain how they are paid and will allow you to contact the university directly. Learn more in our guide to university agents.

Compare offers on total cost

Build a four-year or six-year table, depending on the degree. Use the net tuition for each year, realistic compulsory charges, housing, travel and a contingency. Do not assume a first-year promotional rate continues unless the written terms say so.

A full tuition waiver does not mean a fully funded degree: housing, food, residence procedures, flights, books and personal expenses may remain. Conversely, a modest but stable tuition award at a program with the accreditation you need can be better value than a larger headline award elsewhere.

The safest scholarship is one the university confirms, the invoice reflects and your family can sustain under the renewal rules. Send us an offer for a free second look, then confirm the final terms with the issuing institution.
