Admission, transit, entry and residence are four different decisions. A university can confirm your student record, but an immigration or border authority controls entry and legal stay. Check every stage for your passport before paying for a non-refundable flight.
1. Confirm the admission record
Verify the offer through a university contact you found on its official website. Check your legal name, passport number, programme, campus, intake and payment condition. Ask which documents the university currently recommends for travel and registration.
An admission letter is supporting evidence; it is not a border guarantee.
2. Check the route through Türkiye
Flights to Ercan Airport operate via Türkiye. Remaining airside on a protected connection is different from passing Turkish border control. A self-transfer, separate ticket, airport change, overnight route or baggage collection may require entry into Türkiye.
Use the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa information and the official e-Visa portal for your nationality. Do not assume “transit” means visa-free, and do not buy an e-Visa from an unofficial lookalike site. Ask the operating airline whether baggage is checked through to ECN and whether the connection stays airside.
Keep the full itinerary, accommodation, admission, payment evidence and university contact accessible offline.
3. Understand North Cyprus entry
The Ministry of Interior publishes the visa and residence framework. Entry permission and its duration are decided at the border according to the applicable rules and the documents presented. Nationality, travel document and purpose can matter.
Carry your passport, verified admission letter, registration or tuition evidence if available, accommodation address, onward itinerary and evidence of funds requested for your situation. A representative cannot guarantee the border outcome.
4. Register with the university
After arrival, complete the university’s academic registration. Confirm your student number, tuition balance, English-language status, course registration and the current residence-permit workflow. Save every receipt and portal confirmation.
Do not copy an old student’s screenshots. Portals, fees, health steps and deadlines can change.
5. Complete student residence
The Ministry states that students in associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral study must obtain a student residence permit. It also states that foreigners staying beyond the time granted by visa or visa exemption, or beyond ninety days where applicable, need residence permission unless otherwise lawfully permitted.
Follow the current Ministry and university instructions for the application, health requirements, insurance, payment and document submission. Start early enough to correct an error before your legal stay expires. Keep proof that the application was filed.
What the permit does not do
A North Cyprus student residence permit is not residence in the Republic of Cyprus, the European Union or the United Kingdom. Crossing to the south is governed separately. Check the Republic of Cyprus and other relevant authorities for your passport; do not rely on an agent’s “EU access” promise.

Final pre-flight check
Forty-eight hours before departure, recheck the airline itinerary, Turkish transit requirement, North Cyprus entry guidance and university registration date. Rules can change after an offer is issued. Ask us to review the route, but use the airline and authorities for the final decision.
