Turkish students should not treat every North Cyprus institution or admission route as identical. YÖDAK currently lists 23 institutions, while YÖK publishes its own KKTC higher-education institution information. Programme, route and enrolment conditions matter.
Distinguish YKS placement from other routes
For a programme in the current ÖSYM guide, use that year’s official quota, placement, scholarship and special-condition text. Save the programme code and campus. Do not rely on a previous guide or an agent’s screenshot.
If a university offers direct international admission or another route, ask it to explain in writing how that route applies to a Turkish citizen and how the resulting registration is treated by YÖK. “YKS is not required” is not enough information.
Check institution and programme
Search the institution on both the current YÖDAK list and YÖK’s KKTC page. Then verify that the exact programme is authorised, open, delivered at the named campus and taught in the stated language.
For law, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, engineering, teaching and other regulated areas, ask the responsible Turkish authority about professional consequences. YÖK’s own KKTC equivalence guidance shows why blanket claims such as “every degree works exactly like one from Türkiye” are unsafe.
Compare the correct fee
Turkish-citizen fees can differ from international pricing and can depend on YKS scholarship placement. Use the current academic-year notice for your route. Request a personal invoice showing tuition, mandatory charges, preparation, payment dates and the result if the scholarship conditions change.

Ask where the programme is taught
Some institutions are campuses or structures connected with universities in Türkiye. That relationship can be relevant, but it does not tell you where every year is delivered. For example, current ITU-NCC information includes programme-specific 2026–27 location arrangements. Get the full teaching-location sequence in writing.
Travel, registration and residence
Use the current Turkish and TRNC official entry guidance for the document you will travel with. After arrival, complete university registration and follow the student-residence instructions that apply to your status. Do not substitute another student’s old process.
Bottom line
Choose after the route, programme, campus, fee and Turkish use of the degree are documented. A familiar language and short flight make logistics easier; they do not remove academic due diligence.
