Short answer: several North Cyprus universities run a spring intake, but not every program accepts new students in February. Confirm your exact course, test dates and registration deadline before paying or travelling.
Use the university’s calendar
EMU’s 2026–2027 academic calendar places spring orientation from 18 January to 3 February 2027, English proficiency tests in late January, course registration from 1 to 3 February and classes beginning on 4 February. Late registration ends on 11 February.
Those are EMU dates. CIU and Near East University publish their own academic calendars, and graduate calendars can differ from undergraduate ones. A representative’s generic “February intake” message is not enough.
What can differ in spring
A university may open general admission while a small program starts only in fall. Some courses are sequenced, so a spring starter may take a different first-semester plan. Dormitory choice and orientation services can be different from September.
Ask the department:
- Is the exact program open to new spring students?
- Which first-semester courses will be offered?
- Will spring entry delay prerequisites or graduation?
- Is the teaching language unchanged?
- When are English placement and registration?
Obtain the answers in writing.
October and November 2026
Build a shortlist and verify institutions through YÖDAK. Check program-level accreditation and home-country recognition where relevant. Prepare passport and academic documents and ask whether originals or authentication will be needed at registration.
Compare current fee schedules, not an old spring offer. Request scholarship renewal terms and a total invoice with compulsory charges.
December 2026
Submit the application through the official portal or a verified representative. Use your own email address. When an offer arrives, confirm the applicant details, program, intake and teaching language directly with admissions.
Begin the payment route after verifying the institutional beneficiary. Bank or exchange-control processing can be slow around year-end holidays, so do not leave it to the final week.
Check dormitory availability and refund terms. A spring arrival does not justify paying an unverified apartment from abroad.
January 2027
Confirm the university has credited the payment and issued the documentation required for travel and registration. Plan an itinerary to Ercan with enough time for orientation and English testing.

Keep your passport, offer, payment confirmation, accommodation and original academic material in hand luggage. Request airport pickup using the university’s official channel.
Arrival and first days
Complete university registration, English assessment and course selection on the published dates. Collect proof of active student status and follow the official student-residence workflow after enrollment.
Do not assume that an entry stamp is the full residence process. Higher-education students remaining beyond the allowed entry period need student residence permission under the local framework.
February versus September
Spring can be useful for a student who missed fall, needs time to complete funding or wants to avoid an unnecessary year of delay. September often offers the widest program and orientation cycle. Neither is automatically better.
Compare:
- confirmed course availability;
- time to arrange verified finance;
- housing choice;
- English preparation;
- prerequisite sequencing;
- your readiness to travel.
If the spring start creates a compromised program plan, a prepared September start may be wiser. If the program confirms a normal progression, February can be perfectly workable.
Late applications
Ask the registrar for the final registration date and academic consequences. “Applications open” does not necessarily mean you can arrive after classes without penalty. If the timeline cannot be met, request a formal deferral rather than sending money under pressure.
